Specialized and Periodic medical examinations are often required in situations where employees:

• are exposed to designated substances like Lead, Mercury, Silica, Asbestos, and so on, or
• are required to operate equipment where standards or regulations require employee health testing.

These are specified under the Medical Rules (2005) and OSHA 2007 enforced by the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health under the Ministry of Labor.
